In order to carry out most of the tasks that we perform effectively as carpenters/builders, a wide array of fixings and fasteners are utilised. Over the years, technology in the field of hardware has advanced, and as it stands there are thousands of varieties of screws and nails, each developed for specific purposes. When performing some tasks, certain types of hardware can be specified on the drawing or in some of the associated paperwork. At other times, with such a vast selection of hardware at our disposal, we can pick and choose the appropriate or most convenient type for the job.  

Here we shall take a look at all the major commercially available fixings and fasteners, as well as some of the traditional types that you may come across when carrying out remodels. We shall look at the intended use of each, how they are used, as well as the limitations of each.
