Ground floor build-ups
Alongside the standard strip foundation and concrete oversight that we’ve looked at, there are several other different styles of ground floor assemblies that are used or have been in the past. Here are a selection of section drawings displaying details of the other common ground floor build ups. The diagrams will be annotated with pertinent details, with each also featuring a detailed description of the “hows” and “whys”.
Block and beam/suspended floor
Each individual block and beam floor is going to have its own drawing explaining the exact layout - the spacings of the beams may be set out for specific instances - supporting internal walls
Insulated Concrete oversight
More expensive initial cost - far more durable and long lasting than a conventional suspended timber floor. The lack of any void means that rot is never going to occur, though poor visqueen installation can cause more prevalent rising damp issues.
